Short News, September 2023

Please find below our short news for September 2023:

  • One of the most closely monitored amendments that will affect all professions came into effect on 1 October 2023. The amendment to the Labour Code (281/2023 Sb.) primarily changes the system of agreements on work performed outside employment and regulates home office and electronisation and delivery of documents. Details about changes resulting from this amendment can be found in our article here.   • The consolidation package that contains more than 50 measures intended to bring up to CZK 150 billion to the state budget in the next two years is currently facing delays in the Chamber of Deputies. The coalition’s estimates indicate that the amendment’s discussion in the third reading could take several weeks. This estimate is confirmed by the fact that the next discussion is planned only for 11 October 2023.

  • The Government approved a flat increase in pensions by CZK 360 on 13 September 2023. An amendment to the Act on Organising and Performing Social Security has been in the approval process; this amendment will introduce a possibility to file online applications for a pension’s granting that is likely to apply from December 2023.

  • As a consequence of the approved amendment to Act No. 326/1999 Coll., the Act on Foreigners’ Residency, foreigners will again be able to take out healthcare insurance with insurance companies other than VZP, a.s.

  • The deadline for filing an application to claim VAT paid in another EU member state in 2022 expired on 30 September 2023. Information about the concept of VAT refund is available here. We will be happy to assist you in filing the application for a VAT refund for 2023.

  • Please be advised that the tax Merciful Summer is in effect until the end of November 2023. Individuals who will pay their arrears on tax accrued before 30 September 2022 by that deadline can apply for remission of the tax’s accessories.   • The Ministry of Finance issued Financial Newsletter No. 10/2023 that contains a statement on the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Russian Federation to Prevent Double Taxation and Tax Evasions in the Area of Taxes on Income and Property.
